Inlays and onlays

Also known as partial crowns, inlays and onlays are used to repair damage on the tops of teeth. They can cover a larger area than a traditional filling, repairing damage, decay or trauma while improving the aesthetics of your teeth.

The Difference Between Inlays and Onlays:

Both inlays and onlays are custom composite fillings used to cover the space between the cusps on the tops of your teeth. The only difference between the two is that inlays are added between the cusps of teeth, where onlays can cover a larger area on the surface of the tooth.

Reasons for Inlay or Onlay Restorations:

• Broken, decayed or fractured teeth
• Cosmetic tooth enhancement
• Fractured or large fillings

What Does Getting an Inlay or Onlay Entail?

These will be completed over two appointments. We begin by creating a mold of the problem area, and sealing it off with a temporary filling. At your next appointment, your custom-made inlay or onlay will be permanently cemented into place.
